A Day at the Beach
Spanish Point on the Atlantic

Another warm sunny day as I bravely take on a new bus route to visit Spanish Point. It is so named after the Spanish mistakenly assumed they were in the new world and hung out long enough to realize no, this is Ireland, but they stayed long enough to philander and pillage and get the town named after them before setting out again and bouncing off Plymouth Rock. That's my theory.
The weather is unusually warm (74) which causes the local citizenry to find the one swim suit they own for just such an occasion and fling themselves in the cold cold cold Atlantic for a dip. This is a sight worthy of a day of people watching. First, the Irish don't tan. They rust. Second, all manner of towels have been pressed into service for this summer celebration.
Across the street is the Spanish Point Golf Club. Very unassuming, very local. It's a 9 hole track and you play the 2nd 9 from different tees. The international membership rate is $1000 euros...for lifetime.

The golf course looks like it just belongs there. How far from your base?
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the area that you chose to visit in Ireland is likely meeting your expections, and more. It fits you to a "tee".
